General Environmental - Arnold Schwarzenegger The Environment Must Become Hip

"The Environmental Movement must become Hip and Sexy" Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger told a Washington conference recently.

Speaking to a largely student audience at Georgetown University, he urged campaigners to "focus on the positives of cutting carbon emissions rather than making people feel guilty".

He added that campaigners on climate change needed to shake off the image of being "tree-huggers" and "fanatics".

"Environmentalists were no fun, they were like prohibitionists at a fraternity party," he said to laughter.

Governor Schwarzenegger, who has been criticised in the past over his fleet of Hummers, pointed out that his vehicles now run on bio-fuel and hydrogen.

Wise words from the Governor and one time movie star, As shallow as it may seem to some, I agree that caring about the environment does need to lose the stereo-typical image and become more appealing to the mainstream.

I just wish more influential people in sport, television and music would get behind the environmental movement and influence the millions of people who look up to them.
