Climate Change - Murdoch Vows To Be Carbon Neutral
In a bid to help climate change on a global scale, Rupert Murdoch, The Chairman of News Corporation, today vowed that his many worldwide businesses would be carbon neutral by 2010.
The plans unveiled by Murdoch include measures to reduce energy use, switch to renewable energy sources, and offset unavoidable emissions.
Murdochs plans aim to tackle the company's yearly 641,150 tonne carbon dioxide emissions in 52 countries, and said that the company had also joined the non-profit Climate Group, which helps businesses reduce their carbon footprint.
Apart from the in-house initiatives, Murdoch believes that their influence could produce even greater results by influencing business partners and readers.
"We can set an example and reach our audience," he said. "Our audience's carbon footprint is 10,000 times bigger than ours."
